Preporation for the Feast

The next morning after breakfast the same group headed out to Wisteria. Sadie was riding with Mavis and Melanie. There really wasn’t much left for the men to do but keep the coal and firewood going for the ladies. They also wanted to clean up under the trees and get the big carriage born ready for dancing. It was possible for all of them to be housed at Wisteria. They had another two story home there with nothing but bedrooms. And Ed, Jubel and Zeek had gotten all the men together after the harvest and added twelve bunks to the boy’s bunkhouse, so it was possible. And Ida, Ava and Phoebie said they could work it out. And the weather was so nice, that the men said they could put out their bedrolls in the barn. Potter and Fletcher said they and their people were going to travel back home that evening. So that alone would take a load off the sleeping issue. Mavis and Rose Ann were going to stay together at their mother’s house with the children. Little Eddie was going to be in the bunk house with Izzie. Lena and Agnes were going to be together with the kids. Ladies had the bedrooms with the kids. Sadie was to have a room with all the girls from the Gate. They had it pretty well worked out. Clem said he sure hoped his chickens were in a good mood. It was going to take a lot of eggs for the breakfast the next morning. Blue, Pip and Trip had been picking eggs up for days. And Henry told him he would bring all they could round up from the Gate. And they would also bring all the milk they could squeeze from the cows. Clem laughed and said thanks fellas. Everyone got to work as soon as they arrived. Lena and Thelma were given the job of putting signs on the doors of all the rooms with names on them. And they were making a list of who was sleeping in what house. Ida and Ava were laughing at the idea of it. And Ava replied; the out houses are sure going to be busy around here come Sunday morning. Ida said she would rather not think about that. Thelma said just keeping up with the chamber pots for the kids was going to be a chore. They all broke out laughing. And Lena said; we are going to have to toss a coin on that job. This gathering was going to be well over 150 people. But Clem really didn’t care. He wanted everyone to be able to put a face to the names they have heard. Doc and his gang were also coming. Clem told doc to bring his sleeping roll. He just may be sleeping by cover of the stars. Doc said he didn’t mind. He wouldn’t miss this party for anything.

As the day progressed the task was coming to a completion.
